Tuesday update

Man, I've got nothing creative whatsoever to say today, so I'll just give the basics.

I ran/walked a total of 10 miles last week. That's the most I've done since mid August.

I had very little time to workout yesterday, but I didn't let that stop me. I walked a couple laps then ran 2 miles on the indoor track at the Y. I then did 15 pushups (broken into 3 sets) & did situps for a few minutes.

Food has been The Suck. I have not been eating breakfast regularly. I didn't eat anything this morning until 10 a.m. Bad, bad, bad.

I went shopping Saturday at one of the nice thrift stores in town. I refuse to spend $$$ on bigger clothes, but I have to have clothes that fit. I can't magic these 8-10 pounds off my body over night, so the solution was to buy new second-hand clothes. I found a great pair of black pants, size 10. Found a brand new pair of Limited "the suit" wool pants, with tags on ($98 on the tag, at that) for $6. These were a 12, but they are a bit baggy & my skinny weight Limited pants are 10s, so I was okay with the 12s. I found a few other pieces that were all size 10s. Monday I wore the black pants & felt so much better about the way I looked. It sucks to gain weight, but it sucks more to wear tight clothes that just emphasize to you & everyone else that you've gained weight.

I realize, of course, that buying bigger clothes sizes & not feeling horribly distressed about it could be a very dangerous thing. I'm not happy that I'm in bigger sizes; but I'm not destroyed right now. Of course, it helps ease my guilt a little, knowing that I only spent $35 and got 2 dresses, 2 skirts, 2 pairs of pants, and a Talbots shirt.

I know the weight gain has to stop. I don't have my head in the sand. I weighed yesterday & I weighed today (159.2 and 158.8, respectively). It's not out of control yet. I've got the YMCA group exercise schedule, and my goal is to do two Body Pump classes a week. I'll run/walk several other days a week. For me, I think weight training is a major missing link in my fitness & body image. I loved having firm muscles last year. I want that back.

It's a start at least.

Now, if I can just do that one simple thing of eating breakfast every day, maybe I'll have a shot.

this is going to sound like such a mom question - what time are you going to bed?

are you trying to make breakfast too complicated? too big of a time crunch? can you make it the night before and then just warm it?

I think that free weight are really good for us all. and twice a week is a good pace.

I think you are doing great - slow and steady is good right now. And can I tell you that I am super jealous of your thriftstore finds?

You've already done way more exercise than I have this week - I'm just not feeling it this week, but I've got to get it going again.

Make breakfast a priority!! Even something as simple as toast and a banana would be a good starting point. Or a quickie bowl of cereal - just something to get you in the habit.

I've just recently started a strength routine at home and I love it - getting back into the weights would be great for you.

You are doing great - keep at it! :)

I want those Limited pants. :)

I like the idea of starting with the simple step of breakfast. This Crack thing sounds sort of excruciatingly complicated. Maybe a less extreme plan would be easier to follow consistently?

I agree with the idea of making sure you get something for breakfast, even if it's not what you are "supposed" to.

On days when I have time and know I won't be eating a big snack, I pull a piece of crustless quiche out of the freezer and have that. On days when I know I'm grabbing a snack with a friend, I grab a couple of cheese sticks or a hard boiled egg, just to take the edge off.

Hang in there! Glad you at least were able to find some nice comfortable clothes. The thrifts around here are all either crappy stuff or way overpriced.

I'm going to chime in on the breakfast thing. And, those are awesome deals on the clothes.

You're getting there and I understand your fears. I was there and I slipped up badly so it's good to be careful and think. (In short: don't be like me!)

I am hovering around the same number on the scale. I still have tens and have been wearing them but some of the eights and sixes fit but not with the best feeling..I don't like that snug feeling. I just keep trying each day to do better and I know this will pass... and it will for you, too. Better to feel good in your clothes and lose slowly. Your exercise sounds good to me. I am on again off again with the whole deal. Lots of stress, too, on my last week on the job.

Hope you've gotten back to breakfast routine this week. For me, the 4+ meals a day is SO important. I screw up every time I try to do less. And, this week, I've had even 6 meals some days and it has worked.

P.S. I stand by what I said the other day though -- don't try to lose right now -- just stay aware and maintain until you feel a wee bit better. But don't wait TOO long...that's what I've done in the past...to my detriment. ;-)

And shopping for "interim" clothes at used clothing shops is GREAT. I do the same. Both going up and down the scale. In fact, I'm wearing some thrift jeans today! ;-)
